This is the poor relation to Vilamoura.
It is scruffy, but has a certain charm. It is worth a visit to
the sea front as there is a long promenade populated with cafes
and restaurants. Car parking is difficult, unless you arrive early
or out of season, with the main parking along the beach front
looking out to sea (Note: this is one-way - west to east). Apart
from walking the promenade, or using the sandy beach, there are
both fish and fruit markets to visit plus a large 'Gypsy' market
every Wednesday. (Note: there are some people in Gypsy like costume
but most (95%) of the stalls are uninteresting).
A number of people can often be seen fishing with rod and line
from the long groynes along the beach so this may be a good place
to fish from.

- Alphonso's Restaurant - 1999
"A well run, attractive restaurant, good fish dishes.
Open during the winter season (January when we go to Quinta
do Lago) and popular with the golfing fraternity". (Rua
abertura mar loloja 8 8125 Quarteira. Telphone 089 314614 )
- Aritana restaurant - 1997
"A resident said that this is probably the best in Quarteira
and although I don't have their knowledge of the area, we agreed!
We had Dover Sole stuffed with Prawns & a Chinese Chicken
dish, both were excellent. It's Portuguese owned (wife is Chinese)
We're told that it closes in August because the owner doesn't
like serving the rush of people in peak season. It's next to
the main Post Office on the dual carriageway, not very well sign
posted with blacked out windows, don't let that put you off".
