This is one of the author's favorite places to visit (and re-visit). The rugged cliffs are extremely photogenic (Photo 80k) but also precarious in places. There is, of course, a lighthouse, but also a long flight of steps down to a small cove where 'fishermen' will, for a fee, take you to see the grottoes and various odd rock formations along the coast. Providing your legs can take the steps (both down and up) then this is well worth doing. Similar trips can also be made from the beach at Lagos (just to the east) and there are larger boats touring from Portimão.
There are several good beaches reached from the road to the lighthouse.
A tractor "train" runs to and from Lagos if you do not have your own transport.
