There is very little to commend this area of the Algarve (photo gallery) despite the image that the travel shops and tour operators try to promote. Monte Gordo, (Map - 57k) including Manta Rota is very like some of Spanish Costas - Large concrete hotel blocks, large sandy beaches with beach cafes and restaurants. Life after dark is centered around the casino, discos and restaurants/bars.

It its favor it must be said that the beaches are very, very good and that rarely does the rowdy boozy Costa attitude rear its ugly head.
