This is centred around an apartment complex much favoured by
tour operators. The area and the complex are some distance from
the beaches and require a reasonable level of fitness or a car.
The area, although relatively undeveloped at present (1995), is
showing the universal signs of growth (cranes, building sites,
roads and turnings that go nowhere). Again, at present, as it
is some way from the main tourist area a car is worth having though
not absolutely vital.
The beach - Praia Maria Luisa - has been recommended as the best (2000)

- Balaia Village Complex - 2002
(June 02) "it's very well managed, the villas are hard to rent as may
are owned and lived in, it has 3 pools, gym (at extra charge) and recently a
nine hole par 3 golf course + range has been added. The staff are
exceptional and the gardens are beautiful and of course its very convenient
for Vilamoura/Albufeira etc.".
Eateries (A-Z)

- A'veranda restaurant - 2002
(June 02) "on the complex - is excellent for both lunch and dinner, their
themed nights are Fridays, bar b q etc. are adequate. It's not a place for a
a real late night but they are very hospitable and the service is very
good".
- Praia Maria Luisa beach bar - 2000
"The best beach bar in the area, serving great fish grilled on a
barbeque, washed down with white wine sangria. The beach can be approached
from the side of Club Med Hotel, opposite Balaia Village. It is well
worth a visit".
