Almansil was, up to a few years ago, a very busy and fume filled part of the EN125 trunk road. Today, it is much much quieter and more generally known as the gateway to the villa/timeshare complexes at Vale do Lobo/Quinta do Lago
It is also has the largest collection of pottery shops in the Algarve, although with the bypass now skirting the town, one must make a special effort to visit these shops.
If one has some spare time then, the drive (south at the central traffic lights) to the large villa complexes and the many top golf courses near the coast is worth doing just to see what they are really like.
If you do buy some pottery - Do remember that you have to carry it home!
See also the surrounding areas of Vale do Lobo/Quinta do Lago and Loule to the north.
To get there from the EN125 in Almansil take the Quarteira
Road on the west side (opposite a Bank). After about a kilometre
there is a turn to Vale do Lobo and it is a few hundred metres
further on towards Quarteira on the left.
